About

I came to software sideways. I spent years waiting tables at Wild Wing Cafe in Chesapeake, and four years selling real estate as an independent agent. Those jobs taught me to read people, keep my word under pressure, and run my own business.

In 2021 I went back to school at Tidewater Community College to study electrical engineering. Circuits taught me to think of a system as parts with contracts between them. Then a C++ course showed me I could build those systems myself, and I was hooked: memory, pointers, and what the machine actually does with my code.

That got me an internship at Issuetrak in 2022. Seven months later I was a full-time engineer, and a year after that a Software Engineer II. I spent most of that time modernizing a long-running Classic ASP and SQL Server product from the inside: building a .NET service layer next to the legacy code, moving pages onto it one at a time, shipping the product's public API, and helping move data access off Entity Framework so the product could run on modern .NET.

What I care about most is the seam between application code and its data, and testing that proves software is correct rather than hoping it is. Outside work I build things to learn how operating systems and storage engines work underneath. Some of them are on this site.

I'm looking for a backend or platform role where correctness matters. I live in Chesapeake, Virginia, and I'm open to remote work or relocating. The best way to reach me is by email, linked below.
